How I Got Myself Here?
This is a bit interesting side of the story.
It's 2021, lockdown is still a thing.
So, securing an internship placement is hard.
Even the word "hard" is an understatement in that situation.
Everyone around me got their internship placement.
The phenomenon of "I've landed an internship!" keeps popping up on Instagram story.
But I'm still chilling (with a little bits of anxiety)
What Did I Do Next To Get Out Of That Situation?
So I started looking around and list down the company with the best reputation in my state.
I gather useful information especially the company hotline and what those company does.
I arrange it into a spreadsheet and the first and second company on that list is:
Infineon Technologies.
Texas Instrument.
As the person with a sales background.
I did something as any sales person would do.
I pick up my phone and dial those number.
Someone picked up and connected me to HR recruiter.
So I introduced myself and we had a little bit of a chit chat.
She'll help me to spread the word internally and keep me updated on it.
Few hours later
The hiring manager called and asked on my interest in applying for an internship position.
We had a conversation of what's the role like and what's expected of me.
The conversation goes back and forth.
It was a great exchange.
Then, I sealed the deal when she asked:
"Would you like to join us?"
That was my very first cold call and it landed.
I probably struck gold during that time.
That was the very first time I landed a deal on first attempt.
My ratio of closed deals is usually 1:20 on average.
So I'm Onboard, What Then?
That is a very important point in my life.
This is where it lead me to where I am now.
So, I'm officially an IT Intern.
But what do I do?
I didn't even studied in IT for my Bachelor.
How the heck did I even landed this job?
Well, it wasn't as technical as I would've thought.
At this point in my life, I already pretty experienced in building hard stuff.
So, IT Internship couldn't be that hard.
Oh boy,
How I wish I could take that back.
These are what I've learned as an IT Intern:
Great writing inspires and teaches people.
User-Experience could make or break your products.
Great ideas need to consider capability and resources at hand.
Great things happen when experts and users gather as a community.
Customer's experience and it's journey is a blueprint of customer success.
There are plenty more but those 5 are the most vital parts of the whole internship journey.
Remember those things that I've picked up from my internship?
It became the foundation for my digital marketing journey.
It pretty much kickstarted it.
