The First Exposure
I was still a student back then, a third year student if I'm not mistaken.
I've already started to network with people from different industries.
But most of them were in oil & gas.
Naturally, I get to know more about oil & gas industry.
I'm not particularly interested in the industry itself
It's quite the opposite, I'm interested in the people who have a career in that field.
So information started flowing, people started sharing more about it.
The community itself comprised of people that are very enthusiastic about it.
The enthusiasm is very influential.
How I Got Started?
It's actually thanks to my roommate.
He know a friend that are few years above us starting a venture.
He was an experience engineer in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and have been in the oil & gas industry for a several years.
Then, he took a risk in starting his business of teaching people how to draft and use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and consult businesses in industrial design related matters.
Eventually my roommate and I joined him in managing the business.
I helped in sales related matters.
I get people to sign-up for his classes and businesses to send their employees for training with us.
As a student doing those sorts of jobs and getting more exposure and networking.
It is perhaps the best moments in my life.
Unfortunately, Covid hits and we all know what happens next.
What I've Gained?
Oh, it's plenty.
It changed my life and these exposure made me into a better man especially in maturity and mindset.
Here's the things I've learned:
I learned how to network and build relationships with people.
I learned how to talk in business terms with both company and people.
I learned how a service based business operates both in operations and finances.
I learned how important it was to continuously improve ourselves (personal development).
I learned how to do sales in both B2C (Business-to-customer) and B2B (Business-to-business) ways.
Those are the 5 key takeaways that opened my mind to a broader horizon.
